Slovene Intelligence and Security Agency (SOVA)
The Slovene Intelligence and Security Agency is an independent Governmental service which, in accordance with the priorities set by the Government on the basis of the national security programme adopted by the National Assembly, collects and evaluates information, and provides intelligence from abroad relevant for safeguarding the security, political and economic interests of the state; and on organisations, groups and persons who, through their activities abroad or in connection with foreign entities, constitute or could constitute a threat to the national security and constitutional order.
The Agency co-operates with competent state bodies and services in security clearance, and provides information relevant to the security of certain persons, posts, bodies, facilities and areas.
The incumbent director Dr Iztok Podbregar was appointed on 1 June 2002. Dr. Podbregar is former Chief of General Staff and Ministerial Counsellor, responsible for defence.
Office for the Protection of Classified Information
Slovenia has achieved significant progress in the area of security issues, since the Classified Information Act was adopted in November 2001. Following the adoption of the Classified Information Act, the Office for the Protection of Classified Information was established by the Government decision in January 2002. The Office also acts as a National Security Authority in NATO context.
Ludvik Čarni is acting director of the Office. Prior to his appointment as Director of the Office for the Protection of Classified Information, he worked in the Office of the Director General of the Police.
Zoran Klemencic is head of the Intelligence and Security Office at the Slovene Ministry of Defence.
