When Bulgaria eventually enters the EU, it will be still unprepared for its new responsibilities, according to the die-hard rightists Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB).
"Bulgaria's accession may become a fact during the mandate of the three-way coalition but the country will be still weak, poor and unprepared, DSB's deputy chairman Veselin Metodiev said, adding, "The country's EU entry will be a result of political charity".
The statement was a part of DSB's declaration marking the first anniversary of the Cabinet.
The cabinet has implemented a number of constitutional reforms, which were considered by both the EU and the Bulgarian opposition a failure, according to DSB.
"It has already turned clear, that we will not see Bulgaria in the EU thanks to the efforts of the government but despite of them", Metodiev noted.
The amendments to the Bulgarian constitution adopted in March have been criticised by the EU as jeopardising judicial independence by placing the country's highest court and the chief prosecutor under parliamentary control.
The constitutional changes aimed to fully guarantee the independence of the judiciary.
