Vecer, Macedonia: Nearly 78% of Albanians, only 17% of Macedonians want change of name

57.4% of Macedonians do not want the country to change to its name so that it could join the EU and NATO, an opinion poll carried out by Pavel Shatev Institute reveals, Macedonian Vecer daily writes.
One third of respondents (30.7%) are in favor of the name change and support the country’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations. 11.9% of respondents remain undecided.
73.70% of ethnic Albanians and only 17% of Macedonians are in favor of the change.
According to the opinion poll the VMRO-DPMNE government will handle the crisis better (29.2%) than the government of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (14.5%). More than 56% of respondents do not have an opinion.
If Macedonia held early parliamentary elections in the autumn, VMRO-DPMNE would win 36.8% of votes, Social Democratic Union of Macedonia – 10.7%, Democratic Union for Integration (2.3%), and Democratic Party of Albanians – 1.5%.
The opinion poll was conducted among 1,100 respondents.
